Insurance, deductible and deposit

Every rental at AZ already comes with insurance included. What changes from one plan to the next is how much comes out of your pocket if something happens — that's called the deductible.

First, what a deductible is

The deductible is the cap on your loss. If the car is damaged, the insurance covers the repair — but a first slice is yours, up to the deductible amount. Above that, it's no longer your problem. And if the damage is smaller than the deductible, you pay only the damage: a US$ 400 mirror costs US$ 400, not US$ 3,000. The lower the deductible, the higher the daily rate. That's the only thing separating the three plans below.

What's already included

AZ GO included, at no cost

Covers collision and theft, regardless of who was at fault. You don't need to use your card's insurance or your personal policy.

If you want to lower the deductible

AZ ENJOY US$ 18 per day

For people who want peace of mind without paying for the full plan.

AZ PEACE OF MIND US$ 27 per day

The full plan: whatever happens to the car, you pay nothing.

The three side by side

AZ GOincludedup to US$ 3,000not covered
AZ ENJOYUS$ 18/dayup to US$ 1,000glass and windshield
AZ PEACE OF MINDUS$ 27/dayzerocovered

The amounts are per day and go into your quote. On a 5-day trip, ENJOY comes to US$ 90 and PEACE OF MIND to US$ 135.

The deposit is a different thing

US$ 500 pre-authorization

On pickup day we place a US$ 500 pre-authorization on the driver's credit card. It's a hold, not a charge: the amount is reserved within the card's limit and released after the return.

It only works with a credit card. A debit card does not work, not Visa and not international Mastercard — on debit the money really would leave your account.

There is a Zero Holdoption, US$ 150 one time, which waives the US$ 500 hold. It's subject to approval and applies to people with an Amex or Visa Black carrying its own rental coverage.

When the protection falls away

The rental agreement lists what you have to comply with for the protection to hold. If one of these points is broken, the coverage is void — and then the liability is full, without the deductible cap.

What that means in practice: void protection means paying the whole repair, plus loss of use and administrative fees, with no deductible cap. That's why the first steps after a crash matter so much — and the main one is never admit fault.

The car does not leave Florida

US$ 500 fee if the car crosses the state line

The contract doesn't allow taking the vehicle outside Florida. If that happens, an out-of-state fee of US$ 500 applies — and, being use prohibited by the contract, the protection can be voided along with it.

Thinking of heading up to Georgia or down to the Keys beyond what's planned? Talk to us first. Within Florida the mileage is unlimited.

Other contract rules that generate a separate charge: smoking in the car (a fee of up to US$ 350) and carrying a pet that leaves traces behind. The full text is in the rental terms.
